AWS Elastic File System Unleashed

I ‘ve been anxiously awaiting the release of Amazon’s Elastic File System (EFS). This new type of file system allows multiple EC2 instances to mount the same cloud file system concurrently. The beta version has been available for a while, but only on the west coast. I received the announcement that EFS was live on us-east-1 at 6:01 this morning, I couldn’t wait to get started. So far setting things up has been an easy process, although the AWS documentation is a bit scattered and incomplete in some areas. I’ll go over the steps I took using the aws cli […]

Protecting AWS Objects With MFA Delete

I n this post I’ll cover how to configure a bucket policy to require MFA delete and then give an example of how to perform an object deletion using the aws cli and a formatted json file. At work I’ve set up several buckets to store long-term data. We don’t want this data accidentally deleted so I set up a policy to require Multi-Factor Authentication(MFA) for object deletion, and then restricted MFA access to administrators. And then there are days where life just gets in the way and I don’t get to write at all. It seems reasonable enough, carve out an hour of time just to write, […]

Tyrion’s First Swim

Tyrion's first time swimming. Such a brave boy A video posted by Christine Brennan (@cabrennan70) on Jun 11, 2016 at 12:26pm PDT     Tyrion’s First Swim We have a stream here at the apartment and he’s gone wading a bunch of times, but that water isn’t even knee deep (his knee I mean). He’s never been in water deep enough to swim in, so today I thought it was time. We jumped in the car and drove over to Island Park, just down the street from where I used to live. I found a nice shallow spot and we […]
